NL Schools says administration at St. George’s Elementary in CBS was made aware of a student claiming to be in possession of a prohibited item earlier this week.
NL Schools says staff looked into the matter and addressed the situation, which occurred Tuesday morning, with the student and their family.
Tensions are high following last week’s school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. in which dozens of students were injured, and nine people killed.
NL Schools says the guidance counsellor and teacher spoke with students to help them understand and address any concerns.
The department of education is unable to provide any further details due to privacy concerns.
The department says schools respond as quickly as possible and follow NL Schools policy with safety top of mind.
