Memorial University is holding its head high these days after what it sees as a positive ranking by an influential international publication, Time Magazine. And university officials say the news certainly won’t hurt on the recruitment front.
Time has ranked Memorial University among the world’s top 300 universities and the second in Atlantic Canada. The 2026 list of the world’s top universities has Memorial ranked at 295 globally, and 17th in all of Canada.
Being ranked 295th out of 500 may not sound like much at first brush, but MUN associate VP Dennis Peters says one has to realize that the research looked at 2500 universities globally, so the ranking puts MUN very near the top 10 per cent internationally.
He told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM that the findings in the article are a source of pride.
“It also helps me to attract students because we’re often looking internationally, so these are important data points to have, for sure,” says the VP.
