Schools, government offices and some businesses are closed in the metro region as the eastern portion of the island takes in what could be as much as 60 cm of snow.
Some 25-30 cm has already fallen, as Metrobus and GoBus services have been suspended for the day.
CNA campuses have been closed, with no word on what Memorial University plans to do for its morning classes.
Newfoundland Power crews have spent the night restoring power for thousands, as the storm has brought consistent high winds, with conditions expected to remain blustery until tomorrow morning.
Winds are expected to gust 80-100km/h throughout the day, with snowfall rates between 2-5 cm per hour.
