A 38-year-old man is facing assault and firearms charges following an incident in Long Harbour Thursday.
RCMP were called just before 10:00 Thursday morning from someone who reported that they had been threatened by a man with a handgun.
The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and a Critical Incident Commander were called in, and officers from the Whitbourne-Placentia detachment were joined by officers from Clarenville, Trinity-Conception and Traffic Services.
The suspect, identified as Aaron Woodford, fled the scene before officers arrived, and because police believed that he was armed, a public advisory was issued for people to call 911 if he was spotted.
Woodford’s car was found in Norman’s Cove and he was arrested without incident at a home in the town.
Woodford is now facing a list of charges, including:
- Pointing a firearm
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Mischief under $5,000
- Assault
- Assault with weapon or imitation
He was held in custody pending a court appearance today.
