A celebration of one of the country’s most decorated skips is planned as the 2026 Montana’s Brier begins tonight in downtown St. John’s.
Brad Gushue, who has done and won it all when it comes to the major curling events, will be calling it a career after this season.
He’ll face Quebec in the opening draw at 7:30.
Vice chair of the host committee, Eugene Trickett, says there’s been a lot of excitement in the leadup to the event, especially with it being Gushue’s last hurrah.
Trickett says the committee plans to pay tribute to Gushue throughout the weekend by sharing videos and memories collected throughout his career.
A special event featuring the man himself is taking place Sunday at The Patch.
Gushue will be on stage at the Convention Centre Sunday evening to reflect on his career and share a moment with fans. Trickett expects it to be emotional, so they’re holding the event during the first weekend of the Brier so that Gushue can focus on the remainder of the tournament.
