Power has been restored to most of the island following a trip on the Labrador Island Link which resulted in a frequency loading disruption in power.
Newfoundland Power reported relatively short-lived power outages from St. John’s to Port aux Basques as a result of the incident.
Most, if not all power has since been restored.
Frequency loading outages occur several times a year and are usually short in duration according to NL Hydro.

We have a situation facing residents and businesses in the province and involving the electrical grid.
Newfoundland Power is investigating a widespread power outage which affected a large portion of the province starting just before 11:30.
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says the outage was caused by a trip on the Labrador Island Link but service was being restored shortly after the grid went down.
At its peak, about 100,000 customers were without service but customers are quickly being brought back online.
