The students of O’Donnel High in Mount Pearl are once again participating in a veteran’s appreciation night at the Royal Canadian Legion next month.
The students pulled off a similar event last year, helping to prepare and serve dinner to some 220 military veterans and their spouses.
Teacher Mike Torraville says the students love the experience, so much so, that some are coming back to help with this year’s event.
“A young fellow who graduated last year and sang at the dinner came out a couple of weeks ago and said ‘sir, I’m coming again, to sing again this year.’ Hopefully, it’s something we can continue for years to come.”
Last year’s event was free, but this year they’re charging a nominal $5 for tickets to the event, which will be donated to a local food bank. Tickets for the March 10th event can be purchased at the Royal Canadian Legion on Blackmarsh Road or by calling 709-579-8300.
