Both Newfoundland and Labrador rinks found wins Sunday afternoon at the Montana’s Brier in St. John’s.
Brad Gushue was up 2-0 in the early going against Ontario, and found momentum further along in the game, adding a double in the 9th end to secure an 8-4 win.
Nathan Young’s rink traded the hammer throughout the game with PEI, but threw his best in the 10th end to score three for a 9-8 win.
Skip Brad Gushue says he’s starting to shake some of the jitters, now three games into his swan song.
“Certainly the nerves that we’re feeling are far less than what they were in the first game. I think we’re getting settled in; we’re getting more comfortable and getting a better feel for the ice. And once you’re comfortable with the ice, those nerves ease off because you know we’ve been training for 30 plus years and we know how to throw the rock,” he told VOCM News.
“That first game – there’s always that level of uncertainty and that level of worry and then the first time out with the big crowds here at home.”
Meanwhile, later Monday, Young and Gushue will collide in an all-Newfoundland and Labrador matchup at 7:30.
