The Brad Gushue rink remains undefeated at the Brier after coming out with an 8-5 victory in the battle of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Both teams traded the hammer in the opening four ends, with Nathan Young’s rink keeping pressure on the veteran.
Gushue says after stealing two in the 5th end, he felt the momentum shift on the ice.
“I think we’re playing really well. Nathan and his team challenged us, they made some great shots early in the game to really hold them in it and force us to play well,” he told reporters after the game.
“I thought we had a good game. A couple of misses, the ice was a little bit challenging tonight, more so than it was in the first three games. So, hopefully we get that figured out, but overall I’m happy. 4-0, you can’t be too unhappy with that.”
Young, who is now 2-3 in the tournament, called Gushue an “inspiration” after the game.
Both teams are back in action at 2:30 today, with Young playing Ontario, and Gushue taking on Nova Scotia.
