The big game licence draw is now open for the 2026-27 hunting season.
The total quota for moose for the island is 28,705 (including 20,835 either-sex, 7,390 male only and 480 not for profit licences), up by just over 1,000 licences from last season.
In Labrador, 348 either-sex moose licences are available.
The caribou quota for the island, 614 animals, is an increase of two licences since last year and reflects what the department calls a cautious harvesting approach focused on conserving female caribou.
Residents have until May 1st to apply for moose and caribou licences.
Eligible hunters must have a Wildlife Information Management System account to apply for a licence.
