Gas prices are soaring due to the war in Iran, yet the provincial government is offering no indication that further cuts to the provincial component of the gas tax are coming.
Government says it is making the reduced gas tax previously set by the former government permanent, but wouldn’t commit to further reductions.
Premier Tony Wakeham was pressed on the matter in the House of Assembly by Opposition Leader John Hogan.
“Will he further cut the gas tax?” Hogan asked, to which the Premier responded that his PC members “voted against the carbon tax which the Liberal government introduced, voted against the sugar tax which the Liberal government introduced, and yes, we fought to make sure that the gasoline tax on Newfoundland and Labrador was cut in half and we’re now going to make it permanent.”
