Some restaurants in North America have taken to using robots to deliver food to customers, but concerns are being raised regarding the technology and pedestrian safety.
Local tech blogger Kevin Andrews says use of robots in delivering food to someone’s door is trending in the United States, and also here in Canada.
He says in Ontario they had a pilot program for such technology involving Skip the Dishes and a robotics company.
He says they had small “cooler-sized” vehicles that would travel on the sidewalks within a 2 km radius of the restaurant to deliver food to customers.
As Andrews explains, safety concerns have been raised about the technology, specifically relating to them blocking sidewalks and creating for hazards for people who are visually impaired or in wheelchairs.
