The MP for Labrador says funding coming to upgrade 5 Wing Goose Bay will put the base at the forefront of Canada’s efforts in protecting Arctic sovereignty.

Ottawa is pumping $35 billion into infrastructure and modernization of four military bases in Canada’s north – including Goose Bay.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay has dubbed the announcement as “historic.”

MP Phillip Earle says more details are yet to be announced.

“In the next very short while we’ll be making announcements on the wing that will further define the role that Goose Bay will play, what these investments will look like and the timelines to get the work completed so that we can continue to do the great work that we’ve been doing for a long time,” he told the Tim Powers Show on VOCM.
