The MP for St. John’s East says to “stay tuned” for more details on how billions of dollars in federal money will be used at 5 Wing Goose Bay.
Ottawa has set aside $35 billion for Arctic defense. On the list of areas to receive upgrades is the facility in Labrador.
It has not yet been announced just how much 5 Wing Goose Bay will receive, or exactly what work will be done.
Joanne Thompson says there will be an announcement in Labrador to reveal those details.
She says this is a time when countries have to look at their defense infrastructure and move toward sovereignty in a way that reflects current realities.
She says the federal government has stepped up and is moving forward in that regard.
She says it is also an economic boost, stressing the implications for rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
