The provincial government is going to begin consultations with those who work in the childcare system.
Education Minister Paul Dinn says he is following up on a request from the sector to set up a steering committee to undertake consultations.
He says the committee will include representative groups from across the province and the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The committee will make recommendations regarding changes and benefit improvements for workers which Minister Dinn says will help with recruitment and retention.
The news release announcing the consultation framework began by stating that $10-per-day childcare will continue into the 2026-27 fiscal year.
Participants who are interested can contact educommunityrelations@gov.nl.ca.
Meanwhile, some ECEs say they’re planning to walkout today to protest at Confederation Building.
Some childcare centres have already taken to social media saying they’ll have a delayed opening or could be closed altogether today.
That protest gets underway at 9:00.
