The Opposition is calling on the provincial government to address some of the immigration deficits affecting Newfoundland and Labrador recently raised by federal Auditor General Karen Hogan.
The AG this week released an audit report on Ottawa’s cuts to new study permits which disproportionately affected Newfoundland and Labrador.
“For example, Newfoundland and Labrador and Saskatchewan were both expected to see an increase of 10 per cent in approved study permits compared to 2023, but instead, experienced a decrease of at least 59 per cent.”
Former immigration minister Sarah Stoodley, who expressed shock over cuts to the province’s allotment of economic immigrants, told the Tim Powers Show that the minister needs to address immigration concerns.
She says the province has been largely silent to now.
VOCM News has reached out to the minister’s office for comment.
