A group of people who rely on the gulf ferry system for their commercial interests is in Ottawa this week meeting with those who have some influence over what happens.
Marine Atlantic acknowledges capacity challenges, something which hits users even harder during heavy weather when crossings are cancelled and delayed.
The Coalition for Marine Atlantic Advocacy is calling for a long-term fleet strategy to increase capacity.

The Crown corporation has a new vessel going into service in the fall or late summer to replace the Leif Ericson, but Chris Howlett of Akita Equipment says they would like to see that vessel kept on, at least for a while, to complement the new one.
After that, the coalition wants answers on what happens down the road.
“If this was a hospital, we’re in a code red. Yes, the capacity by keeping the Ericson is great, but we need to keep their feet to the fire,” says Howlett.
