A 56-year-old man from Rocky Harbour is facing numerous charges and a quantity of drugs and firearms seized as the result of a traffic stop and subsequent search of a home in the town.
Local RCMP and the RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation West arrested two men during a traffic stop on Pond Road on Wednesday, and drugs, firearms, prohibited weapons, ammunition and drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized.
The search of a home in Rocky Habour early this morning resulted in the seizure of a quantity of magic mushrooms, a prohibited assault-style rifle, a silencer, numerous non-restricted firearms, ammunition, a taser, switch blade knives and items related to drug trafficking.
The driver of the vehicle, Harvey Steadman Payne is facing numerous drug and weapons charges.
The charges against Harvey Steadman Payne include:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine,
- Trafficking in a controlled substance – Cocaine,
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Psilocybin,
- Failure to comply with a firearms prohibition order – two counts,
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon – three counts,
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device,
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
- Unsafe storage of a firearm,
- Unauthorized possession of unstamped tobacco.
The second man, a 51-year-old, was released to appear in court at a later date on charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
RCMP say the investigation continues and more charges are possible.
