Premier Tony Wakeham says he sees significant upside in an announcement for upgrades to CFB Goose Bay.
Yesterday, Ottawa announced it was making $8-billion available for defence upgrades to 5 Wing Goose Bay, as it looks to beef up its Arctic security.
Wakeham says it is a prime location given its close proximity to the Atlantic and Greenland.
He says the province is “built for defence.”
“There are a lot more opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador. We’ll keep asking and talking to the federal government about what we have to offer in terms of our role in defense, particularly with our strategic location and the workforce that we have,” he said.
“In my opinion there is a lot more to come and I will keep saying that we are built for defense and we will keep highlighting that.”
