The Liberal MHA for Gander says students are suffering because of a lack of support staff in the classroom.
Bettina Ford presented a petition in the House of Assembly last week asking for a full review of support services in schools across the province and seeking a recruitment and retention plan from government.
She says some students are losing the desire to attend school and government has said little about addressing the need for more support staff in the classroom.
“I have heard from families in my district where the child has lost the support and in some cases they’ve lost their desire to go to school because they just feel so challenged or not confident in their abilities in the classroom. So these positions really do change lives,” says Ford.
