More Canadian airlines are adding a fuel surcharge to some bookings to try and offset the rising cost of fuel.
As of today, travellers booking packages through Air Canada Vacations will now have to pay an extra $50 per passenger fuel surcharge.
It comes after WestJet made the move to tack on an extra $60 charge for bookings made with companion vouchers. The temporary charge will come into affect on bookings made this Wednesday onwards.
The airline is also consolidating flights on some of its routes to keep costs down. Capacity has been reduced by about one per cent this month and three per cent in May.
Impacted travellers have been notified of their options.
Late last month, Porter made the decision to add a peak surcharge to some bookings made through its VIPorter rewards program.
All carriers say the fees are temporary and will be removed once fuel prices return to more normal levels.
