The province is budgeting $38-million for the use of travel nurses this year, but they hope to reduce that reliance through a new provincial travel nurse team.
$6.5-million has been allocated in the 2026 budget for the new team, which health minister Lela Evans will consist of 25 nurses that will travel to areas of the province that have vacancies to fill in.
Evans says there will be additional costs on top of the initial funding in the budget.
She calls the $6.5-million a “surface number,” noting that there will be additional costs related to travel and other logistics.
