The health minister says staffing continues to be an issue affecting hours at the Urgent Care Clinic in the capital city’s east end – prompting government to launch an examination into the resources allocated to urgent care.
The clinic was forced to shut down early again last weekend.
Minister Lela Evans says it’s something government is taking seriously.
She says they’ve had “a couple of recent closures because they didn’t have staff to be able to extend the hours. So for us, Speaker, we’re dedicated to actually making sure that there’s proper recruitment and retention for the urgent care. We’ve gone back now, there’s going to be a human resources investigation into the resources allocated for the urgent care, and how they’re actually staffed and call-ins, and what to do…if a physician calls in sick or a nurse practitioner calls in sick.”
