There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding Alex Newhook and the Habs during the Stanley Cup playoffs, but there’s another Newfoundland hockey player who’s getting plenty of attention of late.
Dawson Mercer of Bay Roberts is playing for Team Canada which is undefeated in the IIHF World Championships after beating Norway in a tough 6-5 game Thursday afternoon.
Area MHA Pam Parsons paid tribute to Mercer during Member Statements in the House of Assembly yesterday.
“Today all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians share in the pride of seeing one of our own wear the Maple Leaf…on the international stage. We wish Dawson and and Team Canada every success at the World Championships…and a big shout out to Alex Newhook and the Montreal Canadiens as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.”
