Question Period resumes this afternoon after tensions boiled over – not once, but twice in the House of Assembly on Thursday.
Premier Tony Wakeham is now calling for decorum in the House of Assembly following the raucous day.
Last week, Government House Leader Lloyd Parrot and Liberal Elvis Loveless got into a shouting match behind the Speaker’s chair after their speaking privileges in the House were revoked for chirping back and forth.
Shortly afterward, the Opposition took exception to a social media post shared by a member of the PC Caucus and interpreted by some as endorsing violence against the Liberals.
Premier Wakeham says debate has often turned personal and that “diplomacy has eroded, and rhetoric has too often focused on individuals rather than the issues.”
Wakeham wrote the leaders of the Liberals and NDP suggesting that they meet collectively with the Speaker to discuss the issue and find a path forward.
The Speaker’s office tells VOCM News that decorum in the chamber depends on all members taking responsibility for their own actions.
Question Period begins at 1:30.
