The CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says she isn’t feeling pressured by Quebec to rush a new hydro development deal.
Recent reports out of Quebec suggest that a new MOU on Churchill Falls could be reached by the end of July.
A provincial election must be held in Quebec this fall, and polls show that the governing Coalition Avenir is in trouble.
Despite what that might mean, Jennifer Williams says she isn’t feeling the heat. She notes her team has been preparing as much as possible before each round of negotiations.
“I will echo what the Premier says – he’s not really feeling any pressure and we’re not feeling any pressure. However, we are obviously participating actively in conversations and we are readying ourselves with all the data, all the information, all the analysis possible. So we are meeting the moment, but we’re not feeling pressure by the timeline,” she told reporters.
