The federal government says Canada set a new oil production record in 2025.
The stats were released this week.
Canadian production of crude oil averaged 5.35 million barrels per day last year – up from the previous record of 5.14 million barrels set in 2024.
The greatest volumes came from Alberta at 83.8 per cent, trailed by Saskatchewan at 8.2 per cent and Newfoundland and Labrador at 4.5 per cent.
This province’s oil production increased by roughly 14 per cent in 2025 compared to the year before.
The amount of heavy crude extracted off the coast rose from 114,000 to 137,000 barrels per day between 2024 and 2025.
Early estimates for the first three months of 2026 show that average climbing even higher, hitting 164,000 barrels per day.
Light crude also saw a boost, increasing from 94,000 to 102,000 barrels per day over the same period.
Nationally, Canada has been posting record-breaking production figures since 2020.
