The number of wildfires in the province so far this year has dropped off considerably from last year’s historic season.
There is currently one wildfire burning in the province – a 10-hectare blaze near Labrador city that isn’t expected to have any substantial spread.
There have been 61 wildfires in the province so far this year, down substantially from 136 by the same time in 2025 – a 55 per cent decrease.
Weather conditions were the driving factor behind the number of forest fires experienced last year, with little precipitation during the winter and an unusually dry spring and summer.
