The education minister says he is waiting to hear the finer details on how billions of dollars in new money for childcare from Ottawa can be used.
Last week, the federal government announced $5.4-billion over the next two years to bolster childcare across the country.
Paul Dinn says he is waiting on more information to see what they can do with the additional money that they will get.
The advocacy group Childcare Now has said they are pleased with Ottawa’s commitment, and would like to see the provincial government follow their lead by increasing its own funding to childcare.
To that, Dinn says it is “certainly something to consider,” but he has to wait for the details on the federal money first, as there might be portions of it that they have to use for specific things. He says he will have a one-on-one meeting with the federal minister on that front.
