A new wildfire has started near Labrador city, forcing the evacuation of several areas near the community.
The department of forestry says the new fire is approximately 8 km west of Labrador City, north of the Trans-Labrador Highway, and west of Walsh River.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says cabins in the area of Walsh River, as well as the Duley Park Campground and the Tamarack Golf Course have been evacuated.
The RNC is asking drivers to have patience and to follow the instructions of emergency personnel, and not to stop or exit their vehicles on the roadway.
There are numerous wildfires burning throughout Labrador, and there is one on the Island. None of the other fires pose any risk to communities at this time.
VOCM News is monitoring the situation and will have more information as it becomes available.
