Fireworks in metro for this evening are cancelled. The fire hazard index rating for the Avalon Peninsula has been upgraded to high and as per government regulations, using fireworks when the rating is high, or stronger, is strictly prohibited.

There are significant penalties for ignoring the ban and government is reminding people to check the fire hazard index in their area before setting off any personal fireworks.
