Extra police patrols in the Cochrane Pond Park area this weekend after several fires have paid off. The RNC arrested a man this morning after spotting a man intentionally setting fire to a vehicle.
Police brought in a drone just after daybreak, and located a suspect at about 8:00.
There were no injuries.
The 52-year-old has been charged with only the one fire Sunday morning, but RNC are continuing to investigate several others in the park.
The suspect was held for court today.
Premier Tony Wakeham is addressing the situation on social media saying “Our government will not be tolerant of any activity that puts our communities at risk. Appropriate resources will continue to be engaged to support preventative, investigative and enforcement action.”
He urges anyone who notices suspicious activity to contact police immediately. He also reminds the public that heavy fines may be attached to violating wildfire regulations.
