Forestry Minister Pleaman Forsey is in Labrador West with municipal officials and forestry crews as efforts to knock down wildfires in the region continue.
The concern today is high temperatures and the possibility of flare-ups.
The De Mille Lake fire is currently listed as held, while the Walsh River and Esker Road fires are still out of control.
Minister Forsey says crews remain on the scene, assisted by some 20 firefighters from Nova Scotia in addition to four waterbombers, six helicopters and 57 people on the ground.
He offers assurances about the province’s firefighting capacity, should fires break out on the island.
“We still have resources on the island,” says Forsey, “We have a waterbomber and helicopters” and he says they have assets ready to go where needed.
