North Atlantic is preparing to register the second phase of its proposed wind to hydrogen project on the Isthmus of the Avalon for environmental assessment.
The first phase of the project was recently released from the provincial environmental assessment process.
The first phase includes a 324 MW onshore wind farm east of Sunnyside, a hydrogen generation plant and a hydrogen plant at North Atlantic’s existing Come By Chance terminal and connecting transmission line.
The project, designed to produce 30,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, is now moving into the Front End Engineering and Design phase.
Meanwhile, phase 2 of the proposed project will include a 481 MW wind farm in the area of Bull Arm, and will expand the project’s total hydrogen production capacity to 60,000 tonnes per year for export to global markets.
