Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are accustomed to watching for moose on the province’s highways, but one woman is warning about scanning for black bears as well.
Colleen Dalley told VOCM Open Line with guest host Darrin Bent that a black bear ran across the road, cutting off her vehicle, near the golf course in Terra Nova National Park earlier this week.
She says she’s never seen bears so plentiful as she has this year.
“I frequent the highways quite a lot and have seen an increased number of black bears. He just came out of nowhere”
Dalley says it was a close call.
She says the bear stopped briefly and she was forced to slam on her brakes, reminding her of the importance of not keeping too many things loose in her vehicle as it all shifted forward.
