The town of Labrador City is reminding residents that e-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed to be used in municipal parks and recreational areas.

The town says the machines are restricted because of their speed, the risk to the public, and damage caused to paths, green spaces and park infrastructure.

That includes the Trick Lane Skate Park, playgrounds, ball fields, sports courts, walking trails and “all other public parks and recreational facilities owned or operated by the town.”

Many municipalities are struggling to address the concerns raised by the proliferation of e-bikes and e-scooters, which are virtually silent and can achieve high speeds.

The provincial government has indicated that it is considering legislative amendments to address the use, and misuse of the machines.
