A man faces numerous charges, including drunk driving, after a six-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in St. John’s last night and rushed to hospital with injuries considered to be life-threatening.
The incident happened at the intersection of Larkhall Street and Thorburn Road around 7:45.
RNC say the suspect vehicle fled from the scene before they arrived but thanks to a person in the area, they were able to quickly locate the vehicle and arrest a 32-year-old man. First, he failed the roadside test, then the breath test back at RNC headquarters.
Tyler Day has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene, and breaching a probation order. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
Police are asking anyone who has video footage (CCTV, dash-cam, or cell phone) from the area around the time of the collision to contact them at 709-729-8000.
