A number of great white sharks that are being tracked by marine research organization Ocearch have moved into the Gulf of St. Lawrence – including two tagged predators that, as of the weekend, were swimming off the province’s west coast.

Quint, a 9-foot male, pinged in the Strait of Belle Isle Sunday afternoon while Webster, a 12-foot male, pinged just north of the Port au Port Peninsula yesterday morning.

Until recent years, great white shark sightings were considered rare in Canadian waters, but recent research shows the massive fish regularly make their way as far north as Newfoundland in the warm summer months.
