The RNC has upgraded charges against a man accused in a pedestrian-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a six-year-old boy.

The child was struck at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Larkhall Street last Thursday evening.

The child was rushed to hospital and has since succumbed to his injuries.

RNC say the charges against 32-year-old Tyler Julian Day have been upgraded to impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death among other charges.

RNC Constable Stephanie Myers says thanks to the vigilance and help of the public, they were able to track down and arrest the accused who had fled the scene.

“Because of the assistance from the public in this file, we have been able to lay these charges. The investigation is ongoing, but we have gathered a significant amount of evidence from the public and through our investigations to support the charges.”

“Because of the member of the public that did follow that vehicle after the collision, we were able to locate and arrest that driver.”

Day was scheduled to appear in court today.
