The company tasked with the job of removing the grounded bulk carrier the Baltic III from Cedar Cove is set to begin the process of pulling the vessel onto the shore in the coming days.
The massive operation is being carried out by Resolve Marine of Fort Lauderdale Florida.
The company was also involved in the cleanup and removal process after the bulk carrier Dali ran into and destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in 2024.
Salvage naval architect and project manager with Resolve Marine, Mara DuVernois says they’ve begun removing the remaining containers and are dismantling the accommodations block from the stern of the ship.

In the coming days they’ll be using a series of chains attached to the ship to pull it to shore.

“We’re going to be pulling it to the beach. This involves running out chains – three-inch stud link anchor grade chain, and then we’re hooking that chain to twelve 300-tonne hydraulic chain-pullers. Those chain-pullers are going to pull the vessel from where she’s currently at, up onto the beach that we can access her…as we cut her down and scrap her into little pieces.”
