The federal Conservatives, if elected next time around, will expand the recreational groundfish fishery.
The Liberal Government expanded it to seven days a week this year for most of the island, but not all. Because of weak stock counts, the west and southwest coasts are relegated to three days a week.
Jonathan Rowe, the MP for the east coast and parts of the southern strip of the island, doesn’t think that is fair.
“It’s a small policy change. It won’t cost billions of dollars but it will help people provide food for their families,” Rowe says.
