The damage caused by a number of targeted attacks on telecommunications infrastructure in the metro area this summer is continuing to affect service in certain areas.

A series of deliberately-set fires caused damage to cell phone and communications towers in the St. John’s area last month.

Thirty-year-old Patrick Donald Greer is facing five counts of arson, five counts of damage to property and three counts of break and enter as part of the ongoing investigation.

He’s scheduled to appear in court today.

Bell says four wireless sites were affected.

Two of those sites have since been repaired and brought back into service, however, service is still affected in parts of the capital city’s west end and the downtown.

Bell says it has deployed additional network measures to help maintain connectivity, while restoration work continues.

Because of the extent of the damage caused, Bell cannot say when full restoration will be complete.

The company is recommending that customers use landlines or WiFi Calling for phone conversations where available.
