Retail sales rose significantly in Newfoundland and Labrador in June compared with the numbers from June 2025.
Across Canada, retail sales were up by 5.2 per cent but in this province they went up by 6.9 per cent over the 12-month span. Sales in June 2025 amounted to $1.06-B but in June this summer that rose to $1.12-B.
As for month-to-month numbers, sales across Canada in June went up by 0.6 per cent from May and 1.2 per cent in this province.
Statistics Canada says sales were up in seven of nine subsectors, including a 2.7 per cent increase at general merchandise stores. Sales in clothing, clothing accessories, shoes, jewelry, luggage and leather goods retailers added 3.1 per cent.
