Gridlock is a frequent reality in parts of Paradise as a busy and growing suburb of St. John’s, but the town is hoping to find the means to loosen up the flow over the next few years.

A regional study on the traffic connections in the metro region, including St. John’s, is looking at the broader picture as any kind of a hiccup, even a fender bender, along a main access point can throw everyone’s timing into a tizzy.

Paradise Mayor Patrick Martin says they know they have a problem, and he’s hoping the study can offer suggestions on adding more ways to get in and out of town – possibly via the Outer Ring or Topsail Road.

“In doing that, we want to make sure that we don’t go into residential neighbourhoods and upset people so there will have to be traffic calming measures and things like that,” says Mayor Martin.

“We’re anxious for this study to be done.”
