The latest tropical storm forming in the mid-Atlantic has been named ‘Dolly’ and, true to its namesake, the storm is not expected to cause any harm.

American-based meteorologist Athena Masson, who studied at Memorial University, says Dolly is weakening considerably.

“It’s going into an area of high wind sheer, which tropical storms do not favour, so it is weakening steadily as it heads toward the Lesser Antilles.” Masson said, “There’s a chance that it could restrengthen, but that’s far off in the forecast. But right now, just like all of the other tropical storms that we’ve been seeing this season – three prior to Dolly – nothing’s really shaping up in the Atlantic. It is quiet for this time of the year.”
