A well-known Canadian actor says he’s been turning toward streaming platforms as the country’s media landscape continues to shift.
Jonathan Torrens—best known for his role as “J-Roc” on Trailer Park Boys and for hosting Street Cents and Jonovision—was in St. John’s earlier this week to promote his new spirit at the NLC.
He says he’s had to adapt over the past few years, discovering new platforms and avenues that simply didn’t exist when he first started acting.
“The currency is a little different. It used to be when I was coming up, you might go to the network and pitch a TV show. And if they liked it, they might give you some money to make a pilot or better yet, make a series,” he told VOCM News, “Nowadays there are so many streaming platforms. There are so many different outlets vying for the attention of viewers and listeners. So currency comes in a different form. It comes in the form of social media, it comes in the form of YouTube. And so you can tailor your experience to the things that interest you specifically.”
