The towns of Victoria and Salmon Cove say they intend to work together to address a range of issues, not the least of which is the repeated problem of algae blooms in waterways downstream from Victoria’s sewage lagoon.

The towns have issued a joint statement indicating they intend to lobby government for grants and infrastructure funding.

Other issues identified include upgrades to the Old Salmon Cove Road, and expansion of the towns’ mutual aid agreements on firefighting.

The towns are working with the Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland on addressing factors that prohibit salmon from migrating upstream, and mitigating low flow of water in Forest Pond as well as other conditions leading to algae blooms.

The two towns have agreed to meet every three months to discuss ongoing issues.
