Another wayward great white shark is wowing researchers and casual observers alike with his epic journey to Newfoundland waters.
Contender is a 1,600 pound, 13 foot, 9 inch male, tagged by the American research group Ocearch off Florida last year.
The predator has been swimming about in Notre Dame Bay in recent days, having rounded the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula, and last pinged off the Horse Islands in White Bay.
Ocearch says the great white is making his way through waters no other similarly tagged shark has ever gone.
That, according to researchers, raises new questions about how far north great whites travel and what is attracting them to northern waters.
Contender is the largest great white male ever tagged by Ocearch.
