Ottawa is chipping in roughly $7 million toward water and sewer upgrades along one of the main arteries in the City of Mount Pearl.
The section of Park Avenue from Dunn’s Lane to Stapleton Road, where the old Mount Pearl swimming pool was located, will undergo extensive work starting next summer.
That section road has seen a lot of wear and tear over the last few years as many commuters pass through on a daily basis. It’s hoped that the opening of the Team Gushue Extension will alleviate some of the burden.

Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Aker says the water and sewer upgrades will allow the city to expand housing during a time of great demand.
He says the city has identified a handful of spots along Park Avenue that can be redeveloped for residential use, such as the site of the old hotel. Mayor Aker says once the new community centre is complete off Smallwood Drive, the one on Park will be demolished and rezoned for housing.)
Mayor Aker says the neighbourhood will look a bit different for a year or so but it’s short-term pain for long-term gain.
The project is expected to cost just over $17 million.
