The owners of a business in Seal Cove are seeking an update on continued construction in the area that they say could force them to close.
Seal Cove Grocery & Liquor Express says its business has suffered since a previous Bailey Bridge put in place in the early 1990s was removed for the construction of a replacement structure.
The work has been going on for the last five months and owner Kristen Dwyer, noting that sales are down 30 per cent, says they’re worried after losing the bulk of their summer business about what will happen now that the work is dragging into the lead-up to Christmas.
She says they don’t think the work will be completed by the end of the current calendar year.
The town provided an update in mid-September indicating that the contractor was waiting on the arrival of equipment at the site to complete necessary drilling.
Saying it apologizes for the ongoing disruption, the town encourages residents to continue to support businesses in the area. A detour is in place at Garden Road.
